France, Iii Republic. A Tonkin Expedition Commemorative Medal For The Navy 1885 Auction 1887 - November 6(Mdaille commmorative de l'expdition du Tonkin). Instituted in 1885. In silver, engraver marked "DANIEL DUPUIS" on the obverse, cornucopia hallmarked on the reverse, measuring 30. 2 mm in diameter, contact marks, surface wear, original ribbon, very fine. Footnote: The medal was instituted on the September 6, 1885, and awarded to the army and navy who served in the 1884 1885 campaign in north eastern Indochina (North Vietnam), otherwise known as the
